In 2017, Tom Ford released Oud Minérale, and critics of the oud persuasion easily bought into the allure and enchantment of this unconventional fragrance. While oud may not typically be a note most accommodating in many compositions, Oud Minérale proudly sways the perception in the other direction. Like a salty breeze, you are greeted with marine and oceanic notes in the opening of the fragrance. Pepperwood as well as pink pepper melds into the heart of the composition to add a spicy contrast to the salty freshness. The fragrance’s namesake resides in the base and assures you that it will not be too dramatic when it decides to introduce itself. Instead, it carefully inches its way into the spotlight only enough so that the wearer knows that it’s standing on the stage. The agarwood saves the theatrics for seaweed and company.
